Tea Cup and Saucer

Tea Cup and Saucer (From Book: Captivating Crochet)

Teacup is 1 3/4" tall.
You will need: 


  • Size 10 bedspread cotton - Cream color
  • small amount of metallic gold thread
  • Styrofoam ball for shaping
  • No. 5 steel hook

INTERMEDIATE 

BEGIN:


CUP: 

Rnd 1: starting at bottom, with cream, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 3, 19 dc in ring, join with sl st in top of ch-3 (20 dc).

Rnd 2: Working this rnd in back loops only, ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each st. around, join (40).

Rnd 3-4: Ch 3, dc in each st around, join.

Rnd 5: Working this rnd in back loops only, ch 1, sc in each st around, join with sl st in first sc, fasten off.

For base, working in front loops only of rnd 1, join cream with sl st in first st, ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each st around, join, fasten off. 

HANDLE:

With cream, ch 30, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in each ch across, fasten off. 

SAUCER:

Rnd 1: Starting at center, with cream, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 4, 23 tr in ring, join with sl st in top of ch-4 (24 tr).

Rnd 2: Working this rnd in front loops only, ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each st around, join with sl st in top of ch-3 (48 dc).

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, (dc in each of next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st) around, join (60)

Rnd 4: Working this rnd in back loops, ch 1, sc in each st around, join with sl st in first sc. 

Rnd 5: Ch 4, skip next 2 sts, (sl st in next st, ch 4, skip next 2 sts) around, join with sl st in first ch of first ch-4, fasten off. 

For base, working in back loops of rnd 1, join cream with sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) around, join with sl st in first sc, fasten off. 

When shaping the cup, cover your foam ball with and boards with plastic wrap. Twist the handle and shape with pins as seen in photo. Apply fabric stiffener ( i used elmer's glue or tacky glue and water). Let completely dry before you take off of your board.
